Ten years ago, I was driving down I-45 and saw a “Now Hiring” sign on the Del Papa Distributing marquee. My wife had a good friend who worked there who said it was a great place to work, so I put in my application. I have now worked here for a decade.
Someone told me when I first got hired, “Apply for every position,” and I did just that. As a result, I’ve done it all! I started in the warehouse as an Order Builder then soon after moved to be a Draught Technician. That gave me a little exposure to Sales and I became a Retail Service Rep in our Alvin market and then eventually on the west end of Galveston Island. During the craft beer boom, I worked as a Pint Jockey selling and teaching our customers about all the craft beers we had to offer. Then, I became a Sales Consultant. Now, I am the Marketing Manager for our coastal region where I manage and oversee all special event opportunities and sponsorships in Galveston and Brazoria counties. I also oversee supplier relations and build effective sales programs for our top suppliers, including Anheuser Busch, Constellation Brands, and seven local craft beer suppliers. I also get to work with non-profits and community organizations, which is very rewarding.
My career success was recognized when I was included as a Galveston County 40 under 40 honoree. Learning everything from the ground up is something I enjoy, and I think it has contributed to my success. I feel confident in what I know about this business, and it makes me appreciate my journey and where I am today.
This business changes all the time so you have to educate yourself, be prepared to pivot and adapt to an ever-changing environment. The teamwork and camaraderie here can’t be beat. I love that I get to work with multiple departments. We all pull together to get through the busy times, and that makes the job fun.
