To our local heroes, This Bud’s for You! During the month of October, in collaboration with Anheuser-Busch, Del Papa Distributing will donate 50 cents for every case of Budweiser sold in its coastal distribution territory to support the Galveston Fire Department Association and the Galveston Police Department Association.
Where did "This Bud's For You" originate?
We’ve all heard the classic, “This Bud’s for You,” toast, but you may not know when it was coined. In a 1979 television commercial, Budweiser sought to raise a glass to “everybody who puts in a hard day’s work.” The one-minute commercial spot featured men and women literally rolling up their sleeves. It featured truck drivers, farmers, welders, chefs, administrators, bartenders and more! A catchy jingle played in the background: “This Bud’s for you. There is no one else who does it quite the way you do. So, here’s to you. You know it isn’t only what you say, it’s what you do.” And so, the iconic Budweiser brand ethos was communicated in a way that was not only catchy, but also truly captured the essence of the celebration of hard work. It made raising a glass of Bud, hold the sentiment of a hand-written thank-you note.
And it stuck! Today, you still here the catchphrase, because it is still relevant to honor hard workers, local heroes, family and friends. And it’s even more fun to do it through a case of Budweiser.
Honoring our Hometown
Del Papa Distributing started in Galveston, Texas. Now, as a century-old local family owned and operated business, Del Papa brings the national prominence of “This Bud’s For You” and makes it ring true in their hometown community. In 2019, Del Papa honored a century-long friendship with their Galveston retail partner, Gaido’s, presenting them with a ceremonial Budweiser delivery with the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales. In 2023, they launched an annual Employee Appreciation Week to raise a glass to the hard work of their employee partners. And this fall, they pay tribute to our local heroes who risk their own safety to keep Galveston County a wonderful place to work, live, and drink a beer.
So this October, grab a case of Budweiser and join us in saying, “Galveston, This Bud’s For You!”
